Who is JAC?

Just Around the Corner (JAC) Ltd is a Woodley based charity set up in 1998 to give hope to young people in the community, enabling them to make positive choices, by demonstrating love and acceptance according to Christian principles.

We provide a first point of contact to the youth living within the Berkshire area to raise the awareness of alcohol, drug, substance misuse and general wellbeing and to challenge their social attitudes based on Christian values and ethics.

Our original vision in 1998 was to engage with youth on the streets of Woodley.  This work has expanded over the years and we are now active with detached work on the streets of  Crowthorne, Wokingham, East Reading, Woosehill, Earley and Whitley - as well as Woodley.

As part of our work we go into local schools and run small groups which concentrate on Emotional Literacy.   Working on topics such as drugs, alcohol, bullying, self-esteem and anger management, students are given the opportunity to talk about their own experiences and learn from others.

Using a Community Interest Company, we run the Just in the Park Cafe in The Oakwood Centre in Woodley.  The menu includes fairtrade and ethically produced food and drink and ranges from teacakes to toasted sandwiches and jacket potatoes, not to mention delicious home made cakes.

At our stables in Arborfield, young people spend time around horses gaining confidence in their abilities which can have a far-reaching and positive effect in school and family life.  We also offer an Equine Assisted Learning programme.

Whilst our original remit was to reach out to the young people in the local area, we have become increasingly involved in family work over the years.

We employ six members of staff but our work would not be possible without our dedicated and faithful volunteers who commit anything from 2 to 35 hours a week.
