Hang Out at the Warehouse – a safe haven for young people

Every two months, the Trademark Windows Showroom in Wokingham is taken over on a Saturday night by young people enjoying live music, playing football in a cage, being pampered, playing computer games and mixing up milkshakes in a shake shack.

The Warehouse, as it is known, is run by a partnership of local churches and the Wokingham Schools Christian Workers. Aimed at secondary school children, The Warehouse is free, and provides a safe place where young people are encouraged to try out the activities and socialise.

Matt Lilley, co-ordinator of the event said, “Mark Ashwell, owner of Trademark Windows, has been great donating the large conservatory showroom space which naturally provides different zones for the various activities.”

“Young people attending on a regular basis are becoming more confident and are also getting involved with some of the local community youth activities.   Generally we have about 60 young people come along, but we could cope with 100.”

The evening is free, safe and above all offers young people somewhere to go and have fun, but also to look at real issues, such as justice, spirituality, care for the environment and awareness of the wider world.
